After spending 5 days with Nana and Grandpa, we drove from Cape Cod to Boston to spend one day in the city before heading home. During the drive I was sitting in the back sest with the boys, and Cooper reached over and without saying anything, grabbed my hand and held it while looking out the window. So sweet.
We arrived in Boston a bit late, and were hungry. We wanted to try someplace new, and Nate had researched a few local places to eat near our hotel. One was a pizza place that sounded so good, but we drove there and while the pizza looked delicious, there was no place to sit with a family and eat, besides the fact that the neighborhood was a tad bit "sketchy", being out by the airport. I was disappointed, since pizza had sounded so good, since I was hangry.
So we headed to restaurant #2, called KO's that supposedly had great food, including the most amazing pot pies. It was in Chelsea, right down in a reclaimed part of the city. As we drove there, the GPS lead us to an old shipyard. Very strange. We entered through the gates, and drove ahead, wondering whether this could be right. It was like a place you see on tv where dead bodies show up. It was totally dark except for a few nearly burned out lights, and I was nervous and beyond hungry, and so annoyed that Nate refused to just order the pizza to go from the other place and take it back to the hotel. The kids were tired and hungry. Cooper was whining, Hudson was screaming because he was tired of he carseat, hungry, and tired. It was NOT a great time to be wandering around an abandoned shipyard. Then suddenly we saw some inviting lights, a bunch of outdoor tables and people eating. They were all young hipster-types, and the place was very geared to that. Nate went to check it out, and we decided to give it a try. It was to chilly to eat outside with the baby, and I was VERY thankful that we were the only ones eating inside. I felt all eyes on me as I dragged a crying baby and a cranky preschooler inside. I felt like a fish out of water. Nate ordered a lamb pot pie, and I ordered some chicken that came with a spinach salad, since I jist wanted something healthier at this point. The food ended up being AMAZING. I ended up going to the car to nurse the baby halfway during dinner, and witnessed two sketchy altercations under a dim light on the far side of the parking lot next to a building that was missing windows. Then I watched as a group of about 10 people came out of another building, dressed to the 9s, and getting into expensive cars. Overhearing their conversation, they'd just come from a party in an art galllery. Such a weird place! But I'm glad we gave it a try, despite the surroundings, the kids, and feeling out of place. The food really was great.

The next day we went into the city, and Cooper got to take his first ride on the T. He was excited to ride on a real subway train, as he callled it.
We started with an early lunch at Legal Seafood, a place on the warerfront where we have so many fond memories. It was a beautiful day, and we enjoyed eating on the patio.
Next stop: the Boston Aquarium!! My first time ever visiting downtown Boston, Nate took me and my family to the Aquarium. It was fun to take Cooper. He LOVED the penguins.
He also really liked the hands-on exhibits where he got to touch various sea creatures.
The sea turtle swam right in front of us in the big tank.
This was Cooper's other favorite--the really colorful fish, like Mommy and Daddy had in their aquarium before Cooper was born.
Hudson was wide awake the whole time, and wouldn't even stop to eat. He was taking it all in!
Coop also liked looking at the sea lions.
Petting sting rays = awesome!
After the aquarium, we strolled around Quincy Market for a bit. There were so many other places in the city I would have loved to have visited, but we just didn't have enough time. Have to take another trip.
The boys were exhausted.
We stopped to watch a street performer who first balanced his unicycle on his chin.
Then he played the bagpipes while riding the unicycle, and then juggled knives while riding, amongst other things. His show lasted about 45 min. It was a fun way to end our time in the city. Only regret not having more time (like several more days) to enjoy the city I love so much.
