Perfect Bill of Health

Yesterday during Hudson's well-baby visit to check his jaundice levels, the pediatrician said, "He's just perfect, and looks great. Keep doing what you're doing."  Those are a few words every mother loves to hear.

Hudson's birth stats:

Height: 20.25"

Weight: 8 lbs. 11 oz.

Head Circumferance: 14"

 

Five day stats:

Height: 20.25" (actually they didn't

measure him, but used his birth length) - 50th percentile

Weight: 8 lbs. 1 oz. - 50th percentile

Head Circ.: 14" - 50th percentile

Basically this baby is long and lean with a small head; quite the opposite of his brother who at this age was 90th for weight (9 lbs 1 oz), 50th for height (20-1/2") and 50th for head circ. (14-1/2").  The stats look similar, but that extra 1/2 lb weight and 1/2" head made such a chubbier baby. Cooper was chubby from the get-go, so Hudson seems very small and skinny to me, even though when compared with his 5-7 lb peers at the hospital, he looked quite a bit bigger. Funny how those few small things make such a difference in the size of the baby.

When we left the hospital Sunday, Hudson's weight was down to 7 lbs. 14 oz., a 9% loss. The kid was a little piggy, and still is, and ate and ate, but seemed to never get full.  In the hospital I gave him 1/2 oz formula twice because he was so hungry even after nursing almost non-stop for 24 hours.  I was glad I did so that his weight loss didn't drop below that dreaded 10%. Thankfully my milk came in Sunday night, and Hudson was finally able to get a full belly.  He eats ao well that the jaundice that was beginning to be of concern was nearly gone when we visited the doctor yesterday, and she was very pleased that in just two days he'd already gained back 3 oz. Being a little piggy has its benefits as a newborn!

I was thankful to leave the pediatrician's office with such great news.

Today these three were having a little snuggle on the bed.  Everything I love most in this world is in this picture.
